"Ikigai" is a family docudrama that explores the journey of a newly divorced father and his attempts to regain his "Ikigia"- a Japanese philosophy that roughly translates to "a motivating force; that gives a person a sense of purpose for living". Narrated by a quasi silent collage of observations by his eldest daughter, and secretly filmed footage, Ikigai examines the unspoken cultural rules that dictate our well-being, whilst also condeming cultural differences as a justified reason for violence.
